FROM THE PRESIDENTOn your behalf, I thank Vic for putting this newsletter together. Tutors - please share this interesting and creative edition with your students and encourage them to submit items (with your help, if necessary) for future editions of the “Students’ Page.” Our council is in the throes of planning a series of active spring and summer events. These are summarised at the end of the newsletter. Please participate and encourage your student to do so as well. Our business as volunteers is to help our neighbours in the region with their literacy challenges. Our council’s dilemma is how to reach those who need our help. Our meagre supply of dollars is inadequate for a full-fledged media campaign but we are hoping that a series of planned PSAs, news releases, mall displays and community activities will encourage those needing assistance to take advantage of our free confidential “Each-One-Teach-One” programs. With your encouragement and support - talk about literacy with family, friends, colleagues at work, church or others in your social networks - we can deliver the message. “Word of mouth” is typically the most effective endorsement of a product or service, and you and your student are in the best position to help achieve our goal. Thank you for all that you do for new readers in our communities. Peter Sawyer. *************************************************************** STUDENT TUTOR APPRECIATION DINNER May 19 Lions
